B30a John Is His Name, Luke 1:57-66, 80, Feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

When Zechariah did not believe he and his wife, Elizabeth could have a baby because they were very, very old, God made him speechless. After their baby was born, Elizabeth said his name would be John. People argued that wasn't a family name. Then Zechariah wrote on a slate, "John is his name." Afterwards he could spoke again. He said to his son, "And you, child... will go before the Lord ...to give his people knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins." Never underestimate the power of God. Always believe that he can do things for you that seem impossible.
