Joseph chose to love Mary and take her into his home. He did not choose to divorce her or to have her stoned to death. He listened to the Angel. God wants us to do the kind thing, even if he hasn't sent us an Angel to tell us what to do. When you choose to do the kind thing, God is so happy with you that he makes a beautiful sunset in your honor.
