Pray without Ceasing

 Luke 18:1-8 New American Bible

Luke 18:1-8 New International Version Bible Gateway

How long can you hold both of your arms up?  Imagine how difficult it must have been for Moses to hold his arms up all day long...from sunrise to sunset.  In times when your energy seems low, and you don’t think you have the strength to go on, God will send someone to help.  When evil tempts you beyond measure, ask God for help.  God will always give you the strength to do what is good.  He will show you how to do the right thing.  He will give you the power to choose good over evil.  He will light the way so you know which way to go.  If there is something that seems difficult for you to learn, pray to God about it.  He will fill your head with understanding.  He will send someone who will explain it to you in such a simple way that you get it easily.   Remember God is your strength and your power!

We should pray without ceasing telling God of our needs and thanking him for our blessings.  The judge in the Gospel gave the widow what she wanted because she was persistent.  She never gave up until she got what she wanted.  Unlike the judge, God our heavenly Father knows what we need and even though we may pray for it over and over, if it is not his will and is not for our good, he may refuse our request.  Many times he gives us what we ask for.  And then we find out that we didn’t really need exactly what we asked for.

Have you ever begged and begged and begged for something?  What happened?  Did you get it? Did you keep begging even after your parents said, “No.

Did your parents continue to say “NO?” or did they finally break down and say, “Okay, you can get it…just be quiet.”

A good parent, teacher, or friend will not give in to others who beg and beg and beg for something that they believe will harm them.  Even if the begger tells them that everyone has one.  If it seems like everyone is asking you to do something you don’t have the energy, money, or patience to do, ask God to help you.  He will give you the wisdom to know when to say, “Yes,” and when to say, “No.”

If you are having trouble saying NO to evil, ask God to help you.  He will give you graces you would never believe existed in the earth for you to say NO and really mean it.  God is your strength and your power.  He will help you hold your arms up to fight against the temptations of evil.  He will help you receive the justice and help you need even if people have turned you down. He will bring help to you from people, places, and things you know and from people and places you don’t know.  Have faith the size of a mustard seed that God will help you and he will not let you down.  He will not leave you out in the cold.  He will not leave you in the dark.  His love is a warm blanket.  His knowledge and wisdom lights your world constantly.  All you have to do is raise your arms and ask for his help.

Say the “Our Father” and ask God to give you strength to raise your arms to ask God for help.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.”
