Story about the importance of being committed to a goal

Who comes first in your life? Every day when you get up, what is the first thing on your mind.Go to the bathroom, brush teeth, get dressed, get something to eat, pick up your backpack, get all notes signed, make sure you have all homework, go out the door to catch the school bus.Do you see anything missing here?Where is God in this picture?

Okay.Letís start the day over again. Every day when you get up, what is the first thing on your mindÖGOD.You say, ďGood morning, Lord. With your help I can do anything that confronts me today.I can achieve great things because you have given me many talents. You have given me many gifts to share with others. You will help me stay on your path. Please help me to stay focused on you, heavenly Father.ĒWhen the focus is on God, everything will be better for you.

In todayís Gospel Jesus says you have to hate your mother, father, sister and brother to follow him.I donít think he meant that word for word.He meant that God should be more important than any human being or any thing on earth. If you are a true follower of Jesus Christ, you will put him first. When you focus on him, all the rest will come easier for you.

When a husband and wife put God first, then it is easy to set goals as a family. When God is number one, everything falls in place.

Sometimes others may judge you and tell you that you are doing it wrong.Remember, if God is happy with you, it doesnít matter what other people think.God is your judge. He will decide if you did it right or wrong. And usually you know in your heart when you did something wrong. You have to forgive yourself as God forgives you.You are human.Even though you try as hard as you can, you will one day make a mistake or two or three or four.God loves you and forgives you.The gift of forgiveness is Godís greatest gift to mankind. The value of the peace of forgiveness cannot be measured in dollars and cents.

You uplift others when you are kind to them in word or action.A door opened by a helping hand is priceless to the one struggling to open it alone.

If a community is struck by the destruction of disease, floods, hurricanes, or evildoers, the helping hands of strangers give hope and pull others out of sadness into joy.

I was reading a book about drawing the yesterday. It said when you are drawing, put a sun on the frame where the light is coming from.If you know where the light of God is coming from, you will know where to look for it.You will know which things come from God and which things come from the shadows of darkness and evil.

When children draw a picture, most of the time they draw grass and sky and a sun.Thatís what you need to do. When you wake up each day, imagine a frame around you.Where is God sitting today to watch you?Is he sitting on your left or right? Is he above or below you?God is all around you.You donít just want God sitting around on your frame. You want God in the picture with you.For purposes of your life, God is where you want him.Thatís where you will find him.Draw him holding your hand or walking behind you. If you are so sad that you cannot walk, draw God carrying you.†††

Godís power shines on you every day of your life.God is your light and your salvation.††

Say the ďOur FatherĒ and ask God to show you how to see his light in all your adventures in your life.Set your mind to do Godís will and to do all things for the God who made you. With God in the picture with you, you will smile for lifeís camera.

ďOur Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.Amen.Ē
