Fourth Sunday of Easter

John 10:27-30 New American Bible

John 10:27-30 Bible Gateway New International Version

Jesus said his sheep hear his voice and they follow him. You probably recognize the voice of your parents, grandparents, and your best friend. I have never heard the voice of Jesus.  I’m not sure I would recognize it.  In my heart though, I know when I am doing right and when I’m doing wrong.  Inside my head, I sometimes hear someone telling me I did fine, when I thought I didn’t do a good job at making something.  You know when you are following Jesus. If you follow the two greatest commandments, you are following Jesus.

Love God with all your body, with all your heart and with all your soul and love your neighbor as yourself.

Jesus is the Good Shepherd.  If you get lost along the way, he will come looking for you.  He will call your name.  You have to listen and look for ways to follow in the footsteps of the Lord.  You can ask yourself what Jesus would do. You can ask yourself what God the Father expects you to have the courage to do.  You can ask yourself what information you need from the Holy Spirit to find the path to heaven again.  You may find it by reading in the Bible.  You may find it by sitting in a corner of a room praying.  You may find it by kneeling down in front of the altar at church.  You may find out by asking another person for advice.   If you wait and listen, God will send Jesus to tell us what to do.  With God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit working with you, you will know just what to do.

Pray the “Our Father.”  When you say, “Give us this day, our daily bread,” this means you will have everything you need…all knowledge, materials, money, food, water, shelter, safety.”  You have to ask and believe that God will do this for you.  You have to believe that God will show you how he wants you to follow Jesus.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.”
