John 1:35-42 Bible Gateway Contemporary English Version

John said, “Behold the Lamb of God.”

Today Andrew and another man were standing talking with John the Baptist. When Jesus walked by them, John said Behold the Lamb of God. Andrew and his friend followed closely behind Jesus and joined him where he was staying. Andrew listened and was so excited he went to get his brother Simon. We have found the Messiah...the one who has come to save the world.

Have you ever known right off the bat when you met someone that you liked them and wanted to spend a lot of time with them. You wanted to talk with them and find out their ideas. You wanted to tell them your ideas. This is what it was like with Andrew and Simon and the other friend. They really liked Jesus. They wanted to walk with him and talk with him and stay with him.

Maybe you’ve heard the saying, “What a friend we have in Jesus.”  This is so true. Jesus is a great friend. He will teach you. He will play with you. He will pray with you. He will help you solve any problem you might have. All you have to do is ask...just like Andrew and his friend. Where are you staying, Lord Jesus? Jesus is staying in your heart. You will find him there.

Jesus will listen when you are sad. He will listen when you are happy. He will tell you which way to go. Just ask him. Remember to ask him to go along with you. Tell all your friends about the goodness of the Lord. How he cares for you and for them. Tell your brothers and sisters that Jesus loves them and that you love them. Tell your parents that you know that they were a gift from God to you.

Not everyone has someone to listen to them. Not everyone has someone to cheer them up when they are down. Pray for those people who have no family or friends to celebrate their birthdays with. Pray for those people who are lonely and have no one to play games with. Pray for those who are scared. Ask that they hear the voice of God and his Angels saying, “Do not be afraid.” Pray for those people who have many skills and talents, but no job to earn money for their families. Ask Jesus to go to them to be their friend and help them. Ask Jesus to help them. Ask Jesus to teach them what they need to know to get the best job for them.

Say the “Our Father” and remember that Jesus, the Son of God is your friend.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
