Sell What You Have
hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the
In today’s Gospel, Jesus says the rich cannot get into heaven. I don’t think he meant that word for word. I believe he meant that if you treasure money and possessions more than God himself, then you would not get into heaven. Those who are rich have a calling from God to share with those who do not have food or clothing. When you outgrow your clothing, you can give them to Catholic Social Services or to Goodwill. Goodwill sells things at low cost. Goodwill uses their money to help train handicapped people so they can get jobs. If you are truly rich, each time you buy something for yourself, you can buy something to share with the less fortunate. If you ask Social Services for the ages and sizes of a needy family, they will tell you and you could purchase something for that family. You can buy food for the Homeless Shelter. All things are possible with God.
If you are having trouble with your schoolwork, you might be thinking: I can’t get this. I don’t understand it and I never will. Ask God to send the Holy Spirit. God can help you understand. All things are possible with God.
If your family is arguing and fussing over simple things or complicated things, God can help. Ask him to help create peace in your home. All things are possible with God.
If violence in the world is upsetting you, pray that God help people to talk to each other and listen to each other. When people honor each other by talking and listening, they will discover the secret of peace. All things are possible with God.
If your grandparents are old and sick, ask God to take their pain away. All things are possible with God.
If you need a new friend to play with because your old friend moved away or went to play with another person, ask God to help you find a new friend who will stay and play with you. All things are possible with God.
Have faith in God for he is your strength and your salvation. He will lead you to eternal life with him in heaven. All you have to do is ask. All things are possible with God.
Say the “Our Father.” Thank God for giving you everything you need. Thank him for giving you the wisdom, knowledge, and skill to live in peace and happiness. All things are possible with God.
“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
