Good News B44
Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Fire Never Stops Burning in Gehenna
"Teacher, we saw someone driving out demons in your
name, and we tried to prevent him because he does not follow us."
Before you read the Gospel during Mass, make the sign of the cross with your right thumb in three places.
1. On your forehead, that all of your thoughts may be kind and loving
2. On your lips, that all of your words be kind and loving.
3. Over your heart, that all of your actions may be kind and loving.
In some countries, if a person is proven guilty of stealing with his hand, they cut it off. In the book Alice in Wonderland, the Queen cut off the heads of anyone who disagreed with her. Taking great care to use our body wisely is the best choice. You don’t want your whole body and soul to end up in Gehenna where Jesus says the fires are unquenchable. If people keep hounding you to do evil with them, stay away from them. One time my daughter didn’t want to go somewhere with people that she thought would get her in trouble. She said, “Mom, tell me I can’t go with these people.” I said, “You can’t go with them.” She called and told them her Mother said she couldn’t go. Perhaps you can ask your parents to do the same thing for you.
People who use their brains to get money by evil means, can make just as much money and more if they choose good ways instead. If you are constantly making the wrong choices, ask God to send a strong angel to help you. This good angel will sit on your right shoulder, reminding and cheering you on to do good. If there is a little devil on the other shoulder tempting you to choose his evil ways, say, “Out devil in the name of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel today, a man was driving out demons in Jesus’ name, and the disciples tried to stop him because he wasn’t a disciple. Jesus said to let the man continue, “Whoever is not against us is for us.”
Say the “Our Father” and ask God to help you choose right over wrong, good over evil, love over hatred, forgiveness over revenge and resentment. Ask God to show you a clear path to heaven. Ask him to make the path clear so that you will easily be able to tell which thoughts, words, and actions will keep you away from Gehenna. You will know the choice that shows you are definitely not against God, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then ask God for the grace and wisdom to make the right choice.
“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
