Good News B41
Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Today you get to witness a healing of a friend of yours. We’ll name him, Ethan. For the past 3 years Ethan has not been able to speak correctly. The doctors say it is because he cannot hear. It is puzzling to you why your friend cannot hear you and talk to you like he used to. You think that the devil must have something to do with it. So you take Ethan to Jesus. If Jesus uses his powers, your friend will be healed. While you are watching Jesus perform his miracle, you are so grateful. When Jesus gets close to Ethan, he spits on the ground to let the devil know that he is in charge of Ethan now. You see the devil leave your friend’s body. The devil is not a happy camper. He stomps and fumes and hollers, but he goes away. Then Ethan’s ears open and he can hear. His tongue can move and he can talk again. He says, “Thank you, Lord Jesus Christ.” You and your friend sing for joy and shout the praises of God’s only Son.
Well, you say to me. I’ve never seen a miracle like that. We are so fortunate. God gave us bodies that when given the proper foods and drink, it will heal itself. This is by the Grace of God himself. He is the one who gives us good health. God is the one who sends us someone to help us when we need help. God is the one who tells our bodies what to do to heal. God is the one who sends the doctors to help get our bodies to act like they are supposed to, or like they used to.
Sometimes when our bodies are aching, it is a sign that we need more time with God. When you are feeling a little sick, take about 15 minutes or longer to sit quietly and talk with God. BE YOUR OWN FRIEND, and take yourself to God the Father. Tell him how sad you are feeling. Tell him how mad you are feeling. Tell him how lost you are feeling.
Say the “Our Father” to thank God for all the past healing of your body and mind. Ask him to send his healing graces to your body, mind, and spirit right away. God will show you a clear path to healing. You have to listen. If you cannot hear God for all the noises in your life, turn off the televisions, the VCRs, the computers, and your CD player. Go to your favorite peaceful place and pray. You will be amazed at the healing a few minutes with God can do. Try it. You’ll like it.
“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
