Good News B36
Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
††††††††††† ďI am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst (John 6:35).Ē
†Jesus is talking about spiritual bread and spiritual drink. Take advantage of this food for your soul. Speak to Godís only Son and thank him for suffering on the cross for you. Tell him that you love him and appreciate everything he has done for you. Pray to God when you get up in the morning, before you eat, and when youíre going to bed. Pray to God when youíre taking tests, when youíre riding your bike and while you are washing dishes. Talk with God when you have a problem. Talk with God and thank him when your problem is solved. If you hear an ambulance, pray for those people who need it. If you see a fire truck, ask God to help those in need.
† How do we get this spiritual bread and drink? When you go to Mass and receive communion in the form of bread and wine it is really the body and blood of Jesus Christ. This is your spiritual food.
† Have you ever eaten something so fast, that you didnít realize you had eaten. If you take communion, think about it while it is in your mouth and afterwards. Jesus is really with you. Talk with him just like you would your best friend because he truly is your best friend. He wonít ever be too busy to talk. Heís never too busy to go with you wherever you want to go.
Other spiritual food is reading Godís word. See if you can get a friend to read it with you. There are many books that have Childrenís Bible Stories in them. Perhaps you can check one out at the library and read it.
Another example of spiritual food is when you help someonelse. This may seem funny to think of you receiving food when you are giving something away. However, God always gives back to you three times over for what you do for another person in his name. So when you do something good for someone, both of you receive gifts from God. Knowing God and doing good things for him is a win-win situation.
Whenever you notice a clock, say the† ďOur Father.Ē Why?† Because itís always a good time to pray. Time is a gift from God. Ask God to help you take the time to notice the spiritual food he is giving you every day. With Godís spiritual food and drink you will enjoy everlasting life with God in heaven. Alleluia!† Amen.
ďOur Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
