You Will Bear a Son

Luke 1:26-38 New American Bible

Luke 1:26-38 Bible Gateway New International Version

Gabriel, one of God’s highest ranked Angels appeared to Mary in Nazareth. She was engaged to marry Joseph. In those times it was as strong a commitment as a marriage itself is today. Gabriel told Mary that she would become the Mother of a son. This child would be the Son of God. Mary did not understand how this could happen. She and Joseph were not married yet. Gabriel told her the power of the Holy Spirit would come upon her and the power of the Almighty God will overshadow her. Mary showed her great love and trust in God and his power. She said, “Let it be done to me as you have said.” Now Joseph would become a foster Father to Mary’s baby, Jesus.

You have a dream growing inside you. It is a dream put there by God himself. This dream is to become what God wanted you to become. No one else can do this except you. Like Mary, you can say, “Yes, Lord. I’ll do this for you.” You also have the choice of saying, “No, I don’t think I want to do this.”

Each day when you wake up, you have a choice to offer everything you do for God. Or you can go through the day without even thinking about God. God thinks about you every second. If he didn’t think about you, you would not even exist.

You may not have an angel appearing to announce what God’s plans are for you. But you will recognize when people need your help. You will know what God wants you to do. Since God helps you, then you want to help others to show God how much you love him. You want others to feel his love through your help, mercy and forgiveness.

Look around you. See what you can do to create a “love” circle…love from God to you to another person to God. Clean up your room. Rake up the leaves. Take out the trash. Make a card to encourage the sick. Open the door for the person behind you. Do your homework without being asked. Pray for those who take care of the elderly. Pray for the leaders of your country.

Say the “Our Father.” Ask God to help fill you with the love and strength to carry out his plan for you.

“Our Father, who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come.

Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day, our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.
