The Baptism of Jesus
Matthew 3:13-17 New American Bible
"This
is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased."
John stopped Jesus from coming forward
to be baptized. He thought that he was
not worthy enough to baptize Jesus. He
knew of no sins that Jesus had committed.
He thought that Jesus should be baptizing him. Jesus asked John to baptize him to fulfill the righteousness.
Jesus wanted to be a good example to his followers, to other people. It must have been awesome to stand and look
at the skies and see the Spirit of God in the form of a dove coming down upon
Jesus. And hearing the voice from the
heavens saying, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
The day when we enter Heaven, God will
say to us, “Hello, good and faithful child.
I love you very much. Enter my home.
I have been waiting with pleasure for you to come. You did so many things that brought joy to
my heart while you were on earth. Thank
you.”
We can say when we get up and before we
go to sleep. “Hello, good and faithful
God. I love you very much. Enter my home and my heart. I enjoy your being with me. You do so many
things that bring joy to my heart.
Thank you.”
Say the “Our Father” and ask God to
give you wisdom to share with people who may need your help to make good
choices in their lives.
“Our
Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
