John 14:1-12 New American Bible
John 14:1-12 Bible Gateway New International Version
“I am going to prepare a place for you.
Then I will come back and get you.”
During this Gospel, Jesus was speaking to his
Apostles before he died on the cross. He
was trying to get the Apostles ready to accept the fact that they were not
always going to be able to see him. When you read the word of the Lord, imagine
that he is talking to you. He says to
you that he is going to the Father to prepare a place for you. What kind of place would you like Jesus to
prepare for you? Would it be a big fancy
home with fine furniture? A baseball field? A little corner filled with your finest
toys? An auditorium where you can hear
concerts from the Heavenly Symphony Orchestra? Or a simple place where you and
your family can live? It could be all of these things. Heaven will be everything your heart wants or
needs. When you do good things for God,
he adds a little more to your place that he is fixing for you in Heaven. Are
you keeping God’s Angels busy building you a place in Heaven? Or are they very,
very busy trying to keep you out of trouble.
Jesus said you would know the way. If you follow him and do the good
deeds he did, then you will get to Heaven.
When the day comes for you to go to Heaven, Jesus is going to come and
get you himself! That is going to be one
glorious day!
Say the “Our Father” and ask God to help you listen and hear him your name at the gates of heaven.
“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed
be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy
will be done,
On
earth as it is in heaven.
Give
us this day, our daily bread.
And
forgive us our trespasses,
As
we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
