Matthew 5:38-48 New American Bible
Matthew
5:38-48 Bible Gateway New International Version
“But I say to you,
love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.”
What does God want you to do when you have a problem
with another person? Jesus says to love
your enemy. Jesus says to pray for those who treat you badly. God is within every person. Look for the
goodness within your enemy. You can get
every good thing you need without doing evil and becoming someone’s enemy. If
you have a problem with a boy in school, pray for him. When the girl down the street broke your bike
because you wrecked hers accidently, pray for her. When you do not understand
why someone is treating you badly, pray for him. If you have a fight with your
best friend down the street, pray for him. Ask God to help you forgive them and
forgive yourself, too. God forgives you
and loves you. He wants you to forgive
your enemies and love them, too.
Say
the “Our Father” and say, “Jesus, I will pray for my enemies and the enemies of
my country. Help me live in peace. Amen.”
“Our Father, who art in Heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy
kingdom come.
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in
heaven.
Give us this day, our daily bread.
And forgive us our
trespasses,
As we forgive those who
trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.”
